A. The home page is basically the "leader board" and for your content to get exposure there, it needs to get a certain amount of votes by the community. The number of votes will constantly vary. Right now it is set to 5, then as the site gets more members and users it will be changed to 7, then 10 and so on. To see how your content looks like, press "LATEST" on the very top menu bar (above the logo). It shows all submissions that are new and up and coming.
A. After you sign up, FitMarker will redirect
you straight to the login screen. Sign in using the username
and password you just created your account with.
To change your password, click on the avatar at the top left of the
site, it should be beside the "HOME" link. This will take you to your personal
settings page. From here click "Account", enter your old
password and then your new desired password.
Note: The default avatar is looks like a bee (but is really a firefly).
A. *Sigh*... click on the "Forgot your password?" link when you're at the login page and we will email you a new one.
A. No, we lied so that you'll come use the site. Gotcha! Actually no we didn't lie, there ARE rewards and we'll show you exactly how to win such rewards. On the right, you'll see the light yellow column and in it, there will be a section that says "Top Users". As the member activity on the site grows, everyone will accumulate "points" and every month we will see who has the most points (or been the most valued member) and we will reward them with something.
What exactly are the rewards? That hasn't been determined yet but linkbacks, guest post opportunities or advertising space isn't out of the question. In fact if you have prize ideas then PM us and let us know... just keep it reasonable.
A. The points are based on the actions you
take such as: submitting content, commenting & Bumping articles. Each of these actions has a different point value attached to it but we can't give away exactly how many points you'll earn... sometimes mystery is a good thing.
However, to prevent anyone
from "rigging" the system, we will constantly monitor
submissions and comments. If someone is blatantly submitting
random crap or leaving gibberish comments just to earn points then we will
not hesitate to press the delete button.
Also remember that while points give us a good idea of how active/helpful a user has been over the past month, it will not determine the winner of rewards. Admins have the power and right to select winners based on who they thought contributed the most to the site and community. It just keeps things REAL.
A. You need to sign up for a gravatar by going to their site, CLICK HERE. Then, be sure that the email address you used with gravatar is the email address that's being used by your FitMarker profile and it will show up like magic!
A. Easy, you add one of our amazingly beautiful Fitmarker submit buttons to your site! It can be added to Wordpress blogs or even static websites.
Go to our toolbox page by CLICKING HERE . It's a simple copy/paste job.
To see the button in action, CLICK HERE
If you need help adding the button to your site or blog, then get in touch with us. Click the "Email" link at the bottom of the site under the colum that says "Contact Us".
A. Yes. Click on your avatar on the top left of the site (near "HOME") to be taken to your profile screen. Then click "New Message" from the menu on the left. Now put in their username exactly as it shows up on the site and send away. When you receive a message from someone, a horizontal gray bar will appear from the top showing you have new unread messages.
A. Yes, messaging the admins requires the same process as messaging anyone else (see Q8). The admins are: JCDF & FitJerk
A. Hell yeah! We do not share or sell your information to 3rd party companies. Period! We take your privacy very seriously. For more information, click to read our > Privacy Policy
Stories that have gotten the required number
of "Bumps" and are now visible on the front page are considered
popular... sorta like FJ. The number
of Bumps required to reach the front page varies (See Q1). Stories
that have gotten a few bumps but not enough to get on the front
page are considered 'Upcoming' and stories that have just recently
been submitted are 'Latest'.
It's a good idea to check out all 3 pages because what's deemed
popular by the community might not be what you're interested in.
The latest page is also a great place to see what's hot right now
and could give you an insight into trending topics. Could you use
this info to churn out content for your blog? Hmm...
A. The badges are a visual representation
of the number of points you have. It's a quick way to tell
who is the most active around the site and who isn't.
Here are the ranks(point requirements are a secret):
Freshmeat
FMrookie
FMmember
FMsenior
FMmaster
FMninja
FMgeneral
VIP
To see how you stack up against others, check the Ranking Page: CLICK HERE
The badges by themselves don't do anything... so someone who is a "FMninja"
isn't treated differently nor has any speical priviledges over
an "FMrookie".
However, when we run speical promos we might might call out
members that have achieved a certain rank. For example, we could
say that everyone who has a rank of FMsenior or higher is
eligible to post an article featured on the front page. Or
anyone who has a rank of FMmember or higher can enter to win
a recently captured, highly annoyed and very under-fed Siberian Tiger... you know,
normal things like that.
The possibilities are truly endless. If you have any ideas,
feel free to PM us.
A. At this time only admins and mods are allowed to post content without a URL. Normal users can get bumped to moderator status based on invitation only... so don't ask about it. However, if you have a piece of content that is unique and valuable, PM one of us and we'll take a look. If it's good, we'll post it and give you a mention along with a pat on the back. Note: For it to go on the front page, people will still have to "Bump" it, so make friends and bribe them. FJ personally recommends sexual favors... they convert.
A. If your question is brief and to the point
(which it should be) then
PM us (username: JCDF or
FitJerk). But if your question is unique in some way and
requires an email, then send it to: fitmarker [at] gmail [dot]
